Bus Services Improvement Plan (BSIP) Bus Lane Changes

Bath Road

The delivery of this scheme has been delayed and it is no longer expected to be delivered as part of the current BSIP programme of works.

Therefore, we are removing the scheme from the programme and revoke the associated bus lane Traffic Regulation Order, which was previously approved by the Traffic Management Committee. The funding would then be reallocated to support delivery of the remaining programme

In relation to Bath Road the Council is hereby notifying of its intention to revoke this bus lane from the Traffic Regulation Order.

Oracle Roundabout

The proposed bus lane scheme was originally developed as part of the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) programme to improve bus priority at the roundabout. However, the scheme was placed on hold pending the conclusion of the wider BSIP programme in order to determine the level of funding available for its delivery.

During the detailed design stage, officers identified that the existing traffic signals at the roundabout were of an age and condition that meant they could not be repositioned as originally proposed without requiring a full upgrade of the entire signal system. As these additional works had not been included within the original project budget, it was not possible to progress the scheme in the form previously consulted upon.

In response, officers undertook a review of the scheme design to identify alternative and more cost-effective options to improve bus priority at the junction. This included consideration of a revised proposal involving the conversion of an existing general traffic lane into a dedicated bus lane. Additional traffic modelling was also commissioned to better understand the operational impacts of the revised proposals on the junction and surrounding network

In relation to Oracle Roundabout the Council is consulting on the revised scheme.
