Help Shape the Future of Adult Social Care in Reading

Reading Borough Council is developing a new Adult Social Care Strategy for 2026–2031. The strategy sets out our priorities for the next five years and how we will improve support for residents, carers and communities across Reading.

We would like to hear your views on the draft strategy. Your feedback will help us understand whether the proposed priorities reflect what matters most to local people and whether there are any areas we should strengthen before the strategy is finalised.

The strategy is supported by a separate Adult Social Care Improvement Plan, which sets out how the priorities will be delivered. The Improvement Plan includes specific actions, milestones, key performance indicators (KPIs), lead officers and timescales, with a focus on People (workforce), Practice and Performance.

We will review all responses received through this consultation alongside feedback from residents, carers, people with lived experience, staff, partners, providers and community organisations. This will help us ensure that the final strategy reflects the needs, experiences and aspirations of Reading's diverse communities.

This consultation closes on 31 August 2026. Please ensure that your response is submitted before this date.

Your feedback will help us understand:

  • Whether the strategy reflects what matters most to residents, carers and communities.
  • Whether we have identified the right priorities for improvement.
  • If there are any important issues, opportunities or challenges we may have missed.
  • How we can strengthen both the strategy and the supporting Improvement Plan before they are finalised.

Once the consultation closes, we will:

  • Review and analyse all feedback received and consider it alongside feedback from carers, people with lived experience, staff, partners, providers and community organisations.
  • Identify common themes, suggestions and areas where changes may be needed.
  • Update and strengthen the strategy where appropriate.
  • Use the feedback to inform the Improvement Plan, which will set out the actions, timescales, responsible leads and measurable outcomes needed to deliver the strategy.

The final strategy and supporting Improvement Plan will then go through the Council's approval process before being presented to the Adult Care, Education and Children's Services (ACE) Committee in October 2026.

Subject to approval, the Adult Social Care Strategy 2026–2031 will be launched at the end of October 2026.
