Climate Emergency Strategy 2025-2030
After a Year of Climate Engagement in 2024 and early 2025, we are now launching the formal consultation for the Reading Climate Emergency Strategy 2025 – 2030. Anyone who lives, works, studies or spends leisure time in Reading can respond – as an individual or on behalf of an organisation.

How we got here
Thank you for helping to shape the Strategy and Action Plans so far, through public engagement activities convened by Reading Climate Change Partnership:
- A core deliberative group made up of 40 people from across Reading’s sectors and communities
- Two public surveys
- A discussion pack for local organisations
- Youth engagement activities
- Ongoing stakeholder engagement with experts and community leaders
- A formal stakeholder review of the first draft
How to participate in the final stakeholder review and consultation
Please get involved in this final piece of engagement before we finalise the strategy. We want your inputs on whether the content in the documents is accurate and complete. If not, where do we need to make changes and/or fill gaps? We are also using this process to identify individuals and organisations who would like to get involved in delivering the strategy and action plans.

Understanding the role of Reading Climate Change Partnership
Reading Climate Change Partnership is a voluntary partnership responsible for convening Reading's collective response to the climate emergency. Active partners include University of Reading, Reading Borough Council, Reading Voluntary Action, Get Berkshire Active, REDA, GREN, and others. We are kindly hosted by the Council but independent of them. We also appoint volunteers to oversee themed action plans. We are not a staffed delivery body but rather a partnership of organisations working together to shape and advance climate action by individuals and organisations in Reading. Our aim for 2026 is to secure funding to transition into a staffed delivery body. You can find out more about us here.
Please contact Ben.Burfoot@reading.gov.uk for further information.
The closing date for your feedback is 7th October 2025.
