Consultation on Bus Service Improvement Plan – Bus Lane Experimental Order to allow Motorcycle Access

Further to the decision of Traffic Management sub-committee, the Council has implemented an experimental order allowing motorcycles access to the following bus lanes, being delivered through the Council Bus Services Improvement Plan.

• A329 Oxford Road – outbound bus lane between Zinzan Street and George Street

• A329 Oxford Road – outbound bus lane between Pangbourne Street and Norcot Junction

• A4 Bath Road – outbound bus lane from Circuit Lane to Granville Road

• A327 Southampton Street – inbound bus lane from Pell Street to The Oracle roundabout

• A4 London Road - inbound bus lane between Sidmouth Street and London Street

• A4 London Road – inbound bus lane between Liverpool Road and Cemetery Junction

The Council will carry out a further assessment during the period that the experimental order is in place and would submit a future recommendation to the Sub-Committee on whether the experimental order should be made permanent.

This consultation is part of the statutory process associated with any experimental traffic regulation order, and we are seeking feedback from the public on whether they support or object to the use of motorcycles in these bus lanes.

You have until Thursday 13th March to respond to this consultation, after which the Council will consider the results and any accident and safety data prior to making a further recommendation to the Traffic Management Sub-committee.
