Consultation on the Council's Hackney Carriage Emissions & Age Policy

The review of the current policy went to Licensing Applications Committee in July 2024, where it was agreed that the new draft policy should go out to consultation.

The policy is aimed to phase out older, more polluting, diesel taxi's and phase in greener hybrid and electric models between now and 2035.

There was a pause to this policy implemented during the pandemic period to provide financial relief to drivers from having to replace their vehicles. This policy is now being reinstated to continue moving towards a greener taxi fleet to meet customer demand and improve air quality, reduce tailpipe emissions, and improve the carbon footprint.

The new policy, once in place, will be reviewed at specified intervals going forward.

The consultation will run for 4 weeks from 9/9/2024 to 7/10/2024.

All comments will be considered and collated to be included in the next committee report.

The final decision on the adoption of this policy, adapted as required to incorporate comments arising from this consultation process, will be made by Licensing Applications Committee on 14 November 2024.
