Share your views on how we should tackle homelessness and rough sleeping in Reading
At least every five years all local authorities have a duty to review homelessness in their area and publish a strategy that outlines how it intends to tackle and prevent homelessness.
We have proposed some priorities for our Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2025-30 and we would like your views.
Our proposed priorities are:
Priority 1: Intervene early to prevent homelessness and rough sleeping.
Priority 2: Break the cycle of homelessness and rough sleeping.
Priority 3: Increase access to decent, suitable and sustainable accommodation.
Closing date is 10 August 2025.

Results & outcome
Consultation responses were reviewed and have significantly contributed to the Preventing Homelessness and Rough Sleeping: A strategy for Reading 2026 - 2031 and Preventing Homelessness and Rough Sleeping: An action plan for Reading 2026-2031.
The Strategy and accompanying Action Plan were approved by Housing, Neighbourhoods and Leisure Committee on 10 March 2026.
The published Strategy, Action Plan and accompanying documents are now live on the Reading Borough Council website and can be accessed by clicking on the embedded links. A full report on consultation feedback, and how it has been integrated into both the Strategy and the Action Plan, is attached to this project.
