Phases
Statutory Consultation: A4 London Road Bus Lane
Following the implementation of the new bus lane on London Road between Liverpool Road and Cemetery Junction, Reading Borough Council and Wokingham Borough Council have developed a number of options for this corridor and for the approach to the London Road bus lane which starts just after the Liverpool Road junction. The option proposed is to provide a new bus lane on the A4 London Road eastern approach to the Sutton Seeds Roundabout and closing the bus gate from the services road. A new bus lane would be installed through the roundabout using vacant highway space and not removing capacity for general traffic. Both of these elements are within Wokingham Borough however within Reading the proposal involves shortening the bus lane by approximately 45m and introducing a dedicated right-turn lane for vehicles turning in to Liverpool Road. The new length will be 52m.
This option provides benefits to journey times for both general motor vehicles and bus services on this corridor as well as enabling a more consistent journey time. Modelling shows that for the A4 London Road westbound route this option performs better in both peak periods and most notably better in the PM peak.
